He and the family were listed on the 1900 Hampton, Bradford County, Florida Census as a House Carpenter.

Mattie carried on keeping the family together. As the children got married they didn't move away too far. For the most part, most of
them stayed close by to home.

Mattie died November 2, 1946. She was 88 years, 1 month, and 26 days old when she died. She was buried in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Bradford County, Florida.
