Bessie Manire was born October 24, 1878 in Mississippi, possibly Carroll County, to John H. Manire and Martha "Mattie" E. Kent.

 

She married James Henry McGruder, son of James A. McGruder and Moselle ?. James was born June 3, 1864 in Georgia. Of this marriage they only had 1 known child, a son named Mozelle Kent McGruder.

 

James was listed on the 1870 Militia District 57, Midville Post Office, Emanuel County, Georgia Census with his parents as James H. McGruder, a 5 year old son.

 

Bessie was listed on the 1900 Hampton, Bradford County, Florida Census with her parents as Bessie Manire, a 21 year old single daughter who was a School Teacher at the Public School.

 

James and Bessie were listed on the 1910 Precinct 7, Hampton, Bradford County, Florida Census. According to the census they had been married 4 years. They had their 3 year old son, Kent with them and they lived close to her family.

 

Bessie died July 6, 1926 in Florida. She's buried in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Bradford County, Florida.

 

Could our James be the same James McGruder on the 1930 District 5, Hampton, Bradford County, Florida Census where he was listed as a 60 year old Widower. He was listed as a Watchman at some Store Mill. He and his parents were listed as being born in Georgia. The Census also stated he was 17 at the time of his first marriage. He was living next to or near his BIL Cecil Elmer Rhodes Manire and his MIL Mattie Manire.

 

James died June 27, 1962. He was also buried in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Bradford County, Florida.

 Mozelle Kent McGruder was born about 1907 in Georgia. He married Ruby May Cloversettle, daughter of Fredrick Cloversettle and Hettie Idella Wynn. Ruby was born May 3, 1911 in Thressa, Bradford County, Florida.

Ruby was the sister of Stella Sterling Cloversettle, Bessie Della Cloversettle, and Freda Lu Rena Cloversettle, who all married the brothers of her Mother-in-Law, Bessie Manire McGruder.

Mozelle was probably named after both his Grandmothers. His Father's Mothers name was Moselle. His Mother's Mothers maiden name was Kent. He might have been called "Kent".

Mozelle was listed on the 1910 Census for Precinct 7, Hampton, Bradford County, Florida with his parents as Kent McGruder, a 3 year old son.

Ruby died September 13, 1933. She's buried in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Bradford County, Florida.
